To all following the docu-series a big THANK YOU for all the support and spreading the word. I have since, again, drained all my savings to continue on to Central America and I need financial support to keep up production. As a one-woman-band, community support is invaluable! The feedback from the series is what keeps me going amid a below shoestring budget. I believe in this project and see the value in telling our own stories and narratives and a lot of you do too.  Please donate HERE and re-blog and share with everyone you know and even those you do not know. Thanks so much!

Negro: Examining Color in Latin America

THIS VIDEO IS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR RENTAL

Color and African-descendant identity is examined in Latin America. How are race and color viewed? What connections do African-descendants and in Latin America share with African-descendants in the U.S.? Latinos and Afro-Americans share their stories.

The one-drop rule of hypodescent only existed in the USA, not in Latin America, thus a sweeping categorization of color and race does not and did not exist in the way it does in the USA.

Interviewees: I met Rosalba while walking around the city in Cali, Colombia. Her friend Holmes, saw me taking pictures and video and upon passing the cafe, beckoned me over to inquire on why (aka be nosy). I told them about the series and Rosalba immediately asked me to interview her.

I met Giovanni Cordoba in Quibdo. Cidaly, also a resident of Quibdo, whom I met through her friend Melissa from Cali, received me when I arrived and introduced us.
